What Are You Looking For?

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I generate all my electricity from solar panels?
Yes, as long as the system is powerful enough to cover your usage. Using usage data from your electricity bill one of our qualified experts will advise you on the size of the system required to meet your energy needs. Provided there is enough roof space for the number of panels required to meet your usage needs, electricity bills could soon become a thing of the past. Better still any extra energy produced above your consumption needs can be sold back to the grid earning you money.
Do I need a solar battery?
The reason to buy a solar system which includes a battery is simple, in the evening once the sun has gone down and it is therefore dark outside, the solar panels no longer produce electricity. By installing a solar battery your home can remain powered throughout the evening while the panels are not producing electricity. The battery will automatically charge during the day using electricity produced from the solar panels, storing the energy needed to power your home in hours of darkness.
Can I sell excess energy produced?
Yes, through the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG). Depending on how and when you use your electricity there will be times when you produce more free electricity than you require. The SEG was introduced to replace the old Feed-In-Tariff, this allows households to sell their energy back to the grid and help fund the investment.
Are there finance options?
There are finance packages available to match all budgets. If you do not have the upfront capital, then finance is a good option. Our finance packages allow you to spread the cost over as many as 15 years.
Are my panels under warranty?
Yes, your panels will be under warranty. We offer the longest warranties in the industry. The product warranty we offer on our solar panels is for a lifetime 99 years. We are also committed to monitoring your installation, should your system fail to work correctly, we will send someone to solve the issue with engineer response times of 24-48 hours.
Will solar panels still produce electricity on cloudy days?
The simple answer is yes, solar panels do work on cloudy days. As the photons inside solar panels that are responsible for creating electricity can be stimulated by any visual light, they work in the same way as normal on cloudy or overcast days. Basically, if it's light enough for you to see the solar panels, it's light enough for the solar panels to work. Solar panels do produce more electricity on sunny days, because the photons that move around to create charge are forced to move more when the light, UV and heat levels go up. Busier photons means more charge being built up. But it doesn't mean it has to be sunny for them to move at all.
Do I need planning permission?
Domestic solar panel installations are 'permitted developments' and don't require planning permission, but homes in conservation areas may require approval from your local council, if so this is something we take care of as part of our service.
Will a Solar System add value to my home?
The simple answer is yes. Whilst there is no hard and fast rule as to how much value solar panels can add to the overall value of your property, suggestions range from 4% to 14% on average and they are certainly unlikely to detract from the value of your home. It may not be surprising, but, the main reason solar panels add value to your home is probably the same reason you got them installed in the first place. Cheaper energy. Everyone wants to find ways to save on their energy bills. The requirement for properties listed for sale to have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), makes energy efficiency a key consideration for many people. By having solar panels, you'll gain a better score on your EPC typically an A, and your property will become more attractive to buyers. Not only that, they'll get the benefits immediately without any of the cost or hassle of installing them. For this reason, it seems like a no-brainer. Having solar panels adds value to your house The Eco Experts latest National Home Energy Survey shows 69% of people are likely or very likely to buy or rent a property with solar panels on it, up from an already high 65% last year.
Are solar panels worth it?
As well as saving you money on your energy bills, solar panels can also earn you money. And don't worry, solar panels still generate electricity on gloomy days, vital for homeowners in countries like the UK where weather patterns can be unpredictable. As the price of energy has rocketed, and the price of solar panels has come down, generating solar power and using it yourself gives a far bigger saving now than ever before. Under the smart export guarantee (SEG) scheme which launched in January 2020, households in Great Britain get paid for solar energy they 'export'. This is electricity you generate, but don't use yourself, which is then pumped back into the national energy grid. The smart export guarantee (SEG) scheme works by requiring energy suppliers with 150,000+ customers to offer 'tariffs' to households in England, Scotland and Wales, which pay a set rate for each kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity you generate from your solar panels, but don't use yourself. Crucially, the amount you get back depends on the company and ranges from just 1p per kWh to 15p per kWh (Octopus Agile Outgoing can pay more than this, but the rates fluctuate every half an hour) - so make sure you go for the best-paying tariff you can. Although it doesn't have to be the same firm that supplies your energy, but with some, it helps you get a better rate if you are a customer already. And keep an eye on the rate you're getting as many are variable. Alongside the benefit of receiving free electricity, solar panels help lower your carbon footprint. For people concerned about the environment, solar panels offer a clean energy source that helps you do your bit in the fight against global warming.
What are the environmental benefits of solar energy?
The electricity produced by solar panels is clean, renewable and emission free.
Whereas most of the electricity generated around the globe is produced by burning fossil fuels like coal and natural gas, generating electricity with solar power does not result in any emissions of carbon dioxide or local air pollutants.
While extracting and using fossil fuels is expensive and harmful to the environment, solar energy is free and readily abundant - if we could capture all of the sun's energy shining on the Earth for just one hour, we could power the entire world for one year!
Generating electricity with solar power instead of fossil fuels can dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions, particularly carbon dioxide (CO2). Greenhouse gases, which are produced when fossil fuels are burned, lead to rising global temperatures and climate change. Climate change already contributes to serious environmental and public health issues throughout the country and world, from wildfires out West to increasingly frequent and severe major storms in the East.
By going solar, you can reduce the demand for fossil fuels, limit greenhouse gas emissions, and shrink your own carbon footprint. In fact, just one home installing a solar energy system has a measurable effect on the environment.
Take for example a home that uses 8,288 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per year. For that home, switching from fossil fuels to solar has the same emissions reduction effect as planting about 150 trees every single year for the lifetime of the solar panel system.
Choosing a clean source of electricity like solar panels can eliminate the same amount of carbon emissions that would result from burning over 5,000 pounds of coal each year.
One of the biggest benefits of solar energy is that it results in very few air pollutants. An analysis by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) found that widespread solar adoption can significantly reduce nitrous oxides, sulfur dioxide, and particulate matter emissions, all of which can cause health problems. NREL found that, among other health benefits, solar power results in fewer cases of chronic bronchitis, respiratory and cardiovascular problems, and lost workdays related to health issues.
